LAURA KNIGHT COBB is an author, lyricist, and poet. As an educator of 29 years, she taught every grade K-8 in; Florida, England, Texas, Switzerland, Michigan, and Scotland. She received an honorary Fulbright Award, and earned Summa Cum Laude with a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
Although Laura had a successful career teaching, her true passion is writing. Her inspiration is generally centered around spirituality, history, and civil rights topics. Laura is a Fellow of the National Writing Project which focuses their expertise and leadership towards our nation's educators to assist them in improving writing skills for all students. She has led numerous writing workshops and seminars throughout the state of Michigan. She is a published poet with the American Anthology of Poetry. She wrote prose to accompany the musical score for “The 11th Hour.” Laura is also a lyricist. Her work, “The Promise of Peace” was performed at Carnegie Hall in New York city in 2017. In 2018, she published, “The Lesson of the Lark”, a moving historical fiction for children and teens celebrating the centennial of the Nineteenth Amendment of the United States constitution. It teaches the importance of equality and tolerance through the eyes of a girl, a lark, and a gardener. Rich in symbolism and metaphor, it serves as a testament to liberty, and the dire need for compassion and balance for humanity. It has been endorsed by the founder and director of Equal Means Equal an organization whose mission is to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. In 2019, Laura was honored as a featured author in the National Writers Series, Author Next Door. The NWS is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to engaging world-renowned authors in meaningful conversations. In July of 2021, Laura will further be recognized as a speaker for The National Women’s History Museum. This summer institute is specifically designed for educators to increase awareness of the centennial anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. It will be hosted in collaboration with the George Washington University in Washington, DC. Laura believes that this is a pivotal time for humanity. She is stead-fast in her commitment to be a positive agent of change in the world.
